This guide explains what makes Chelsea homes different to work on, and what to have ready when you book.
Who covers plumbing and heating in Chelsea?
We cover Chelsea from our base in Battersea, a short trip across the Albert, Battersea or Chelsea bridges. We work across SW3 and SW10, from Sloane Square and the King’s Road to Cheyne Walk, the Fulham Road, World’s End and Chelsea Harbour.
Chelsea homes and their plumbing quirks
Period townhouses
Chelsea’s Georgian and Victorian townhouses often spread over four or five floors, with bathrooms on several levels. Long pipe runs, older pipework and decades of renovations are common. Many larger homes have unvented hot water cylinders to give mains pressure to every floor; these must be installed and serviced by a suitably qualified engineer. We are G3 unvented qualified.
Mansion blocks
The red-brick mansion blocks around Sloane Square and the King’s Road usually have shared risers and bathrooms stacked above one another. A leak in one flat can soon reach the flat below, so knowing where your stop valve is matters. In blocks it may be on a landing or in a communal area rather than inside the flat.
Mews houses
Chelsea’s mews houses are compact, often converted from stables and garages. Boilers and cylinders tend to be squeezed into small cupboards or lofts, so access for servicing and repairs is worth checking before any refit.
Basements and lower ground floors
Many Chelsea homes have basements or lower ground floors with kitchens, utility rooms or bathrooms below street level. Leaks here can go unnoticed for longer, so regular checks of pipework and appliances are sensible.
Flats, leases and managing agents
If you own a flat, your lease decides who is responsible for which pipes and what work needs permission. Before larger jobs such as a new boiler or moving pipework, check with your managing agent or freeholder. They may also need to arrange access to communal stop valves, risers or plant rooms. We can explain what the job involves so you can get approval.
Access and parking
Chelsea’s streets are busy and parking is tightly controlled. When you book, let us know:
- the type of property (house, mansion block flat, mews or basement flat)
- how we can get in (concierge, porter, entry code or key holder)
- where we can park, and whether you can provide a visitor permit
This helps us arrive on time, with the right parts.
